Summary

This position provides a comprehensive employability training program to the unemployed inmate population at a facility by providing instruction, preparing lesson plans and conducting assessments in all areas of job search preparation and retention. 

 



Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Instructs students in all areas of job search preparation including resume writing.
  • Provides writing workshop assistance and vocabulary enrichment activities.
  • Prepares lesson plans, lectures, course overviews and course syllabi to include trade skill and academic programs.
  • Selects appropriate learning material for assigned classes.
  • Prepares attendance reports and adheres to attendance class policies.
  • Assesses inmates’ and detainees’ needs and makes referrals to appropriate staff.
  • Assists in classroom projects and reports.
  • May participate in formulation and development of release plan.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements

 Minimum Requirements

  • Associate’s degree in Education, Human Resource Development, Criminal Justice, or related area required. Bachelor’s degree in a related area preferred.
  • Two years counseling, mentoring, advising or closely related role; and experience with adult learners and/or socio economically diverse groups in a community-based setting preferred.
  • Appropriate valid teaching certification if required by the client agency.
  • Knowledge in job readiness, basic computer operations, money management and community resources are preferred.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department
