Implements long- and short-term initiatives for medical, nursing, and health services at the facility level nationwide, including corporate. In conjunction with the Continuum of Care leadership team, develops and maintains a national healthcare provider network.


Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Implements long- and short-term initiatives to improve and maintain medical services at all Company facilities.
  • Provides guidance to corporate and facility senior management in managing, hiring, and mentoring all facility-level health services personnel.
  • Assists in business development activities as they relate to developing proposals, visiting and assessing prospect locations and participating in pre-bid conferences.
  • Performs on-going reviews to ensure appropriate patient care measures and procedures are updated and maintained on a current basis.
  • Monitors and reports on all health services operations occurring at the facility level.
  • Facilitates appropriate training and development for facility leadership and ongoing nursing education programs for licensed nursing staff.
  • Ensures compliance of policies and procedures with health and medical organizations, and applicable state and federal regulations.
  • Keeps abreast of regulatory changes and current healthcare and industry trends. Advises the organization on changes and makes recommendations to ensure compliance and continuous improvement in health and safety for employees and detainees.
  • Participates in the process of developing and managing the health services strategic plan and annual operating plan.
  • Partners with Corporate Contract Compliance to implement operational monitoring tools for health services.
  • Provides guidance in developing and executing facility plans as they relate to medical and clinical regulatory compliance.
  • Develops methods to reduce health and medical exposures and assures implementation of plans with appropriate senior and facility management staff.
  • Assists in developing health and medical reviews through site visits and formal internal, external and client audits. Provides reports to senior management on the necessary processes and systems to improve total performance.
  • Seeks and establishes new partners and vendors to maximize internal and external resources.
  • Partners with security, medical, and administrative leadership to ensure procedures are consistent with the developmental needs of each patient.
  • Implements all policies in accordance with JCAHO, state, federal and local requirements.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.




Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in healthcare administration, public administration or related field.
  • Minimum of fifteen (15) years of work experience in a correctional, psychiatric or secure forensic facility with at least ten (10) years of managerial level experience in a healthcare setting.
  • Extensive knowledge of hospital and correctional standards, including regulatory agency requirements (i.e. Joint Commission of Accreditation of Hospitals Organizations (JCAHO), National Commission of Correctional Healthcare (NCCHC) and the American Correctional Association (ACA).
  • Working knowledge of the Centers for Disease Control (CDC); state and federal health regulatory laws; objectives and requirements for managing secure forensic and mental health facilities.
  • Ability to work both independently and within groups.
  • Excellent verbal and written communication.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department with above average knowledge of spreadsheet software.
  • This position requires frequent travel.
