Summary of Duties:    

The Training Coordinator is responsible for providing training and technical assistance to STOP Placement Office staff and to the network of community-based providers (CBPs) in the contracted Program Area. The Training Coordinator will develop and provide STOP Placement Office and Program Area CBP staff with initial and ongoing in-service trainings.


Responsibilities include, but are not limited to, the following:


  1. Under the direction of the STOP Program Director, coordinate and facilitate the bi-annual trainings with CDCR for Placement Office staff and CBPs
  2. Identify training needs and work in close collaboration with the Compliance Coordinator regarding identified needs for additional training or clarification
  3. Identify and conduct any additional required and/or needed training sessions
  4. Monitor individual onsite training plans
  5. Develop additional training modules as needs are identified
  6. Develop strategies with other community criminal justice agencies to best serve the target population and effectively establish coordinated community outreach to inform the public concerning the initiative
  7. Provide trainings, as needed, for STOP Placement Office and CBP staff, thereby increasing the level of accountability and professionalism of all stakeholders
  8. Develop, monitor, and update, as needed, outreach presentations in collaboration with other STOP providers to ensure consistency in the message being delivered


Knowledge, Skills & Abilities:

  • Knowledge
    • Understand a variety of models including cognitive behavioral therapy, theories of addiction and dynamics related to substance use and other criminogenic risk factors
    • Extensive knowledge of the transitional process, both documentation and operational, between in-custody and community-based modalities/programs
    • Possess excellent knowledge of English and spelling
    • Possess a level of maturity to deal with sensitive issues inherent in the delivery of reentry substance abuse treatment services to the criminal justice population
    • Know and comply with program documentation requirements, applicable ethical and professional standards of conduct

    • Excellent communication skills
    • Possess excellent organizational and time management skills, as well as an ability to train other staff in use of same
    • Ability to read and interpret documents such as government regulations, legal documents, operating instructions, and procedure manuals
    • Ability to write routine reports and correspondence



  • Abilities
    • Provide effective training and education of program staff
    • Able to operate a PC with basic knowledge of MS Word, Excel and Access



Job Requirements

Minimum Qualifications:

  • Associate’s degree in Criminal Justice, Education or related field required.  Bachelor’s Degree in Criminal Justice, Education or related field preferred.
  • One (1) year of previous training experience including course development and project management is preferred.
  • Two (2) years of evidence-based program experience preferred.
  • Knowledge of evidence-based programming, Motivational Interviewing, Core Correctional Practices, ARMS database and experience training large groups is preferred
  • Possess a valid driver’s license
