Summary. The Social Services Coordinator is responsible for assisting participants with transitional programming to include mental health, transitional housing, and general counseling needs. Additionally, the Social Services Coordinator is responsible for simultaneously developing and coordinating reentry programs to ensure continuity of care for the participant and facilitating services for participants with special needs. It is the responsibility of the Social Services Coordinator to develop and coordinate reentry programs to ensure continuity of care for the participant and facilitate services for participants with special needs; i.e., sex participants, significant medical and mental health issues, drug and alcohol abuse/dependence, and specialized female participant programming, when applicable.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities.
• The Social Services Coordinator is responsible for providing participants with employment assistance in accordance with, but not limited to, the following:
• Job placement resources both in the DRC and in the community, to include the Department of Labor’s (DOL) One-Stop System.
• Employment information assistance using computer-based technology and resources which include career assistance software and on-line resources; i.e., Internet, America’s Career Info Net. The Social Services Coordinator will have direct access to the Internet to meet this requirement.
• Portfolio development, résumé writing, proper dress, and interview technique training.
• Facilitate individual and group counseling, case management, and post-release follow-up relative to employment within the community, to include the area where the participant plans to live following release.
• Organize employment job fairs either on-site or in partnership with other organizations such as community colleges.
• Conduct weekly meetings with participants to review progress.
• Develop plans to involve participants in productive activities; i.e., volunteer work, community service, to minimize the amount of idle time.
• Document the participant’s efforts and progress and ensure it is recorded in their case files.
• Be responsible for the organization, recruitment, training, and supervision of volunteers so that contract and ACA standards are being met.
• Comply with facility safety rules and take appropriate corrective action to ensure work is performed in a safe manner.
• Communicate effectively with all levels of staff in a manner that promotes a sense of team spirit and cooperation.
• May perform all duties of Case Manager and carry a caseload.
• Performs other duties as assigned.
• Required to perform fingerprinting of proposed staff.
• Participates in program review team meetings.
• Provide money management skills instruction to participants.

  • This role may have "on call" responsibilities. 




Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements.

• Bachelor’s degree in a social or behavioral science program from an accredited college or university. At a minimum, one year of experience must be in a social services field in a relevant position.
• Familiar with work force needs, community providers, public and private agencies, and employment services.
• Able to facilitate services for participants with special needs, i.e., sex participants, those with significant medical and mental health issues, and those with drug and alcohol abuse/dependence.
• Able to instruct, maintain positive community relationships, effectively interface with participants and staff, and motivate participants to create an atmosphere of enthusiasm and a sense of work ethic among participants.
• Able to write clear and concise reports in English in own handwriting, using correct grammar.
• Basic math skills including the ability to add, subtract, multiply, divide, and calculate percentages.
• Bilingual in English/Spanish preferred, but not mandatory.
• Able to conduct individual counseling sessions and facilitate small groups, and interface professionally with outside agencies.
• Able to react quickly and appropriately in an emergency situation.
• Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department
