Job Summary:

Under supervision of the Registered Nurse and in collaboration with other team members, provides direct and indirect patient care in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, professional standards of care, state regulations and accreditation standards and CEC’s policies, and procedures

FACILITY/WORK LOCATION SPECIFICATIONS:

Our Facility is Walker Hall in North Philadelphia.

The shift is Monday - Friday from 2:00 PM to 10:00 PM

Intakes and EKGs are additional aspects of this role. 

Supervisory Relationships:

The Licensed Practical Nurse supervises Medical Assistants and other ancillary staff where applicable. 

Essential Functions

  • Interviews patient about current problems, medications, and allergies and reviews medical record for pertinent previous and current information.
  • Participates in patient treatment regimen, including administering medications in accordance with the Nurse Practice Act, professional standards of care, state regulations, accreditation standards and CEC’s policies and procedures.
  • Establishes and documents patient treatment regimen under supervision of RN or MD and implements treatment.
  • Performs routine immunizations, nebulizer treatments, and visual acuity testing, and administers and reads TB tests.
  • Assists in performing EKG, phlebotomy, inventory of supplies and equipment.
  • Attends monthly staff meetings.
  • Good communication skills
  • Attends annual site-specific training.
  • Other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements

Education, Knowledge, Skills and Abilities:

  • Graduate of accredited school of licensed practical nursing.
  • One (1) year of professional nursing experience in a correctional or reentry setting or two (2) years of professional nursing experience in a hospital, clinic, or other health care facility.
  • Completion of a pre-employment drug-screening test.

Certificates or Licenses:

  • Licensed as a Licensed Practical Nurse in accordance with state statutes and State Nurse Practice Act guidelines Current CPR Certification. 

Equipment and Applications:

  • Ability to use electronic medical record, other medical equipment as required for patient care.

 Working Conditions:

  • Ability to work in a secured environment
  • Able to work under pressure and relate well to patients, security staff, co-workers and visitors
  • Adheres to standard precautions, infection control principles, and techniques to ensure a safe working environment.
  • Ability to receive security clearance.
  • Ability to keep up with the demands of a fast paced environment
  • Ability to work 2pm to 10pm daily - no weekends.

Physical Demands:

  • Able to push, pull, lift twenty five pounds or more
