Compensation Base: 50,000 per yr.

Summary

This position is responsible for collaborating with other facility management to implement the academic component of the facility’s experiential program. Develops the curriculum, trains staff and assess the delivery of the program for effectiveness. Ensure contractual compliance with the local school district, the State’s Department of Education as well as the Department of Juvenile Justice (DJJ) standards. Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Develops and implements the academic curriculum that complements the objectives of the facility’s program.
  • Supervises, assists with hiring, and evaluates staff performance; develops measurable objectives for necessary improvements and implements appropriate corrective action to staff adhering to human resources policies and utilizing Human Resources when necessary.
  • Conducts pre-testing and post testing for GED and other academic curriculum.
  • Conducts periodic reviews of students’ progress by reviewing written academic work for quality and progress.
  • Provides DJJ with documentation indicating progress towards academic credit. 
  • Oversees record keeping for the student academic files.
  • Maintains and updates all academic policies and procedures. 
  • Services as an academic resource to staff and students.
  • Supervise teaching staff.
  • Liaison between the facility, DJJ education representatives, and State school districts.
  • Supports the Abraxas philosophy and mission and promotes the Seven Key Principles of care.
  • Demonstrates appropriate use of crisis intervention techniques and skills.

 

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements:

The following education requirements are acceptable for this classification including:

  • Bachelor’s degree in education with valid licensing from the State in which the position performs AND three (3) years of experience in teaching at risk student population.

Other Qualifications:

  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Criminal Background checks (Federal, State, Sex Offender, and Child Abuse registry).
  • Pre-employment physical exam and drug screen.
  • Valid driver's license from employee’s State of residence.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
