The position is responsible for developing, coordinating and conducting recreation, vocational and community services for the facility and within the community.

Essential Duties and Responsibilities include the following:


  • Develops and implements scheduled operations of art sessions, sporting events, team building activities, leisure education, milieu observation, physical fitness programming and other activities as required.
  • Assists in the coordination of all recreational activities.
  • Participates in all clinical staffing and departmental meetings relevant to recreational, vocational and community services.
  • Coordinates volunteer-based recreational activities.
  • Monitors client behavior in the milieu to promote safety and enhance personal growth.
  • Documents client participation via appropriate clinical methods.
  • Identifies and tracks clients’ community service hours.
  • Develops and implements vocational and life skills programming.
  • Assists operations team with the development of client portfolios.
  • Develops and implements intramural sports programs.
  • Assists in maintaining the safety and security of the program/facility
  • Attends staff meetings and conferences.
  • Works closely with clinical supervisor, counselors, caseworkers, and the agency business manager to ensure that all youth involved in work program fulfill restitution, and court costs.
  • Role models and teaches effective supervision and management of clients, interacts meaningfully with clients, and observes client behavior and intervenes appropriately.
  • Teaches and role models the Seven Key Principles.
  • Communicates effectively using various communication systems effectively, maintains regular communication with employees, peers, and supervisors, and provides constructive feedback to employees, peers, and supervisors.
  • Communicates effectively with clients and with support services and customers.
  • Maintains confidentiality of information as it relates to client information.
  • Demonstrates Professionalism in Performance of Job.
  • Implements and mentors employees regarding Youth Services policies on professional expectations, code of conduct and other practices and procedures, serves as a role model for clients and employees and supports the company’s mission, goals and objectives.

  • Performs other duties as assigned.

Education and/or Experience

  • BA/BS Degree in related field; experience in recreation services preferred.

Language Skills

  • Ability to compose a variety correspondence such as memorandums, letters, agendas, or summaries, in a clear and concise manner. May be required to proofread the work of others and suggest changes when necessary.
  • Ability to speak clearly when interacting with others in person or while on the telephone. Must be able to ask questions when assignments are unclear or ambiguous.  Must be able to communicate with officials, clients and the general public.


Mathematical Skills       

  • Ability to apply basic math skills concepts such as addition, subtraction, multiplication, and division.

Reasoning Ability

  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.

Computer Skills

  • Working knowledge of all software applications used by the supported group. This typically includes using word processing, spreadsheet, graphics, charts and database software applications.  Must be able to determine when various software applications should be integrated together when completing assignments.  In addition, must be able to functionally use any other software applications that are unique to the business unit where this position operates.
  • Working knowledge of various equipment typically found in an office environment.

Certificates, Licenses, Registrations

Other Skills and Abilities  

  • Knowledge of child welfare, juvenile justice, and drug and alcohol services.
  • Knowledge of management principles and practices.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.

  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age
  • Criminal clearances (Act 33 and 34 clearances, specific State and child clearances and if necessary FBI)
  • Non-communicable diseases physical exam
  • Valid driver's license
  • Valid registered vehicle insurance
