This position serves as the designated administrator of the Facility’s classification system.  It performs highly responsible administrative work overseeing the facility’s Classification Office including overseeing scheduling of inmates to appear before the Unit Classification Committee, serving as a liaison between unit staff and unit administration, coordinating the work assignments for all classification staff assigned to the unit.  Work involves directing administrative policies and procedures to include custody, discipline, and welfare of offenders in the facility.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Serves as a voting member of the Unit Classification Committee.
  • Develops and maintains processes for efficient communication of inmate’s.
  • Works and housing restrictions to appropriate unit departments.
  • Participates in classification and countroom program planning, development, training, and implementation.
  • Recommends activities to produce a more effective program.
  • Prepares justifications for procedural and policy changes and assists in providing consultative services to plan, implement, and monitor effective Facility programs.
  • Provides technical assistance on program services; works with program staff in determining trends and resolving technical problems; and reviews case histories to evaluate the effectiveness of standards and policies in serving offenders.
  • Participates in or conducts surveys, inspections, or reviews to determine compliance with certification requirements, laws, rules, regulations, policies, and procedures: studies and analyzes operations and problems and prepares detailed and comprehensive reports of findings and recommendations; and evaluates research findings relative to specific projects being developed.
  • Assists in planning and developing educational programs; and assists in developing policy and procedure manuals.
  • Performs other job related duties as assigned or required.


Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • Bachelor’s degree from a college or university accredited by an organization recognized by the Council for Higher Education Accreditation (CHEA).  Major course work in Business Administration, Criminal Justice, or a related field preferred.  Each year of experience as described below in excess of the required two years may be substituted for thirty semester hours from an accredited college or university on a year-for-year basis.
  • Two years full-time, wage-earning experience in offender classification, correctional treatment, or correctional unit operations experience.
  • Ability to use personal computers and associated software applications.
