Summary

The Certified Peer Specialist provides support services to individual receiving mental health services, specifically promoting growth, recovery and wellness. This role works closely with clinical team to guide and support members through the recovery process; assists individuals with developing recovery skills in the areas of self-esteem, conflict resolution, assertiveness, identifying personal strengths and other recovery skills. This role plays an integral part in creating an environment or peer culture within the treatment facility.



 



Primary Duties and Responsibilities

 

  • Facilitates delivery of cognitive behavioral curriculum in a group setting focusing on the areas of motivation for change, social adjustment, personal management, social skills development, cognitive restructuring, and development of problem-solving skills.
  • Establishes and maintains a network of community-based services including state agencies, employment services, employers, housing resources, behavioral health providers and mental health providers.
  • Develops and maintains relationships with state, county, and federal program administrators who can assist residents upon their release.
  • Support residents in navigating the Department of  Public Welfare system with insurance purposes and other community resources.
  • Works to ensure residents obtain eligible benefits and proper identification.
  • Transportation of residents to community service events, job fairs, employment centers, clinics, etc. using Company vehicle.
  • Identify members for peer council, advocate with collateral contacts.
  • Assist residents in working with their case manager or treatment team in determining the steps they need to achieve their goals for recovery.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements



Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent certification required: Associates degree preferred
  • One year (1) experience as a volunteer, facilitator or counselor in a community rehabilitative setting.
  • Certified Peer Specialist “CPS” certification by a Pennsylvania State approved entity, required.
  • Valid Driver’s License
  • Ability to establish and maintain effective working relations with others and handle difficult interpersonal contacts.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
