Summary

This position is responsible for all sales and use tax returns and compliance.  It implements, maintains, and reviews tax systems, procedures, and policies in the sales and use tax area.  Acts as a liaison between the Company, government, and external auditors by providing the required information for sales and use tax audits and ensuring that proper information is maintained for historical purposes.

 



Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Reviews and authorizes monthly and quarterly sales and use tax return filings prepared in house by the Tax Accountant.
  • Manages the monthly and quarterly sales and use tax return filings prepared by external sales and use tax vendors. Ensures all filings are timely and accurately prepared.
  • Reviews monthly, quarterly, and annual sale and use tax account reconciliations.
  • Assists in the execution of strategy and managing the responses for requests related to all state sales and use tax audits.
  • Maintains the sales tax compliance software and integrates tax information reporting between tax systems and general ledger systems to automate reporting processes.
  • Responsible for planning and forecasting of sales and use taxes.
  • Primary sole responsibility for supervision of sales and use tax accountant.
  • Applies for and renews the Company’s business and sales and use tax licenses.
  • Assists with Sarbanes Oxley compliance within area of responsibility.
  • Assists with due diligence upon acquisitions within area of responsibility.
  • Conducts tax research & planning assignments.
  • Maintains and updates tax calendars.
  • Maintains general ledger balances of tax accounts.
  • Maintains the sales and use taxability matrix.
  • Reviews and analyzes tax books within the fixed asset system.
  • Develops, documents, and implements tax policies and procedures.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

 

Job Requirements



Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in taxation required and CPA a plus. Five (5) years of experience in the tax area.  Must have relevant experience in sales and use tax area.
  • Must present effective oral and written communication skills. Must possess strong organizational skills and work-paper techniques. Must be a confident decision-maker able to produce accurate results with minimal supervision. Must possess strong Excel and other computer skills. Knowledge of Infinium and Hyperion a plus.
  • Ability to read and analyze financial reports and legal documents. Ability to write reports, business correspondence and procedure manuals.  Ability to effectively present information and respond to questions from managers, clients, customers and general public. 
  • Ability to work with mathematical concepts such as probability and statistical inference.
  • Ability to apply concepts such as fractions, percentages, ratios, and proportions to practical situations.
  • Ability to solve practical problems and deal with a variety of concrete variables in situations where only limited standardization exists. Ability to interpret a variety of instructions furnished in written, oral, diagram, or schedule form.  Ability to handle multiple projects simultaneously.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
