Summary

This role will work onsite at GEO's counseling program at SCI (secure correctional institute) Mercer in Mercer, PA

  • This position develops and implements comprehensive drug and alcohol treatment plans for a case load of residents. It assesses and identifies issues residents and creates clear objectives and goals for them. It then tracks and documents progress activities in case reports while working to meet all required internal and external standards and policies of the Company and client.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Coordinate and facilitate all reentry services with the offenders.  This includes helping them to create a home plan, job plan, and relapse prevention plan.
  • Assist veteran offenders with all VA paperwork and documentation as well as communication with their Veteran’s Service Officer who assists with VA disability claims.
  • Facilitate group and individual counseling on topics that promote successful reintegration into the community.
  • Develop and foster positive and lasting relationships with outreach programs and reentry services across the state that assist veteran offenders with reentry.
  • Works as a team member with all treatment staff and ancillary personnel to promote consistent and coordinated efforts.
  • Follows the Company and client’s treatment curriculum, policies and procedures.

 

Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • High School Diploma or GED required.
  • Two (2) years professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work or criminal justice setting and have earned a Bachelor’s degree that includes eighteen (18) credits in the behavioral sciences, preferred,
  • One (1) year of paraprofessional and one year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work or criminal justice setting, and are certified by the Pennsylvania Certification Board (PCB) as a “CADC”; preferred,
  • One year of professional experience providing drug and alcohol counseling services directly to clients in a social work or criminal justice setting and a Master’s degree with major coursework in addictions science, psychology or social work, or an equivalent combination of experience and training which includes 18 college credits in the behavioral sciences; or;
  • A Bachelor’s degree in Psychology or Addictions profession, and experience working with the Criminal Justice population; and Training in Medically Assisted Treatment.
  • Preference given to experience within a correctional setting.
  • Ability to interact in a professional manner in both individual and group counseling settings.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Ability to work with a team of professionals and have the ability to implement team strategy approaches to work assignments.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
