Summary

This position is responsible for the operation of the Programs Department ensuring that it operates within the requirements of the contract and in accordance with the GEO Continuum of Care. Key components of the GEO Continuum of Care include specialized staff training, enhanced GEOtrack case management, evidence-based interventions, education and vocational programs, transition planning, and post release support. This position supervises Teachers, Instructors, Counselors and Facilitators in the delivery of Continuum of Care evidence-based programming and provides coaching and mentoring to programs staff on evidence based programming and the principles of “What Works” to reduce recidivism.



Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Ensures all programs and curriculum are delivered within the principles of effective intervention and contract requirements to meet the needs of the inmate population.
  • Visits classrooms and group rooms to observe effectiveness of instructional methods and materials and provides coaching for continuous improvement.
  • Establishes and maintains relationships with colleges, correctional program experts, community organizations, and other schools to coordinate educational and program services.
  • Confers with Federal, State and local school officials to develop programs and curricula and to establish guidelines for the facility's academic, vocational, substance abuse and behavioral programs. Advises facility administration on implementation of applicable State and Federal programs and procedures.
  • Assists in recruiting, interviewing, and selection of program staff.
  • Ensures all Programs staff receive appropriate training for their designated responsibilities and provides coaching and mentoring to programs staff on evidence based programming. Attends, as well as conducts staff meetings.
  • Prepares budget requests for facility programs, orders school supplies and curriculum, and prepares records and reports.
  • Participates in follow-up studies with the Continuum of Care Corporate Research Department to evaluate the effectiveness of facility programs.
  • Formulates plans and policies for programming and submits them to the Assistant Facility Warden-Continuum of Care for approval.
  • Performs other duties as assigned.

 

Job Requirements



Minimum Requirements

  • Master’s degree in Education or a related field preferred.
  • Must have appropriate state teaching certificate.
  • Possess or develop a thorough understanding of the Principles of Effective Intervention that empirical evidence demonstrates reduces recidivism
  • Two (2) years classroom teaching experience. Educational supervisory experience preferred.
  • Excellent oral and written communication skills.
  • Thorough knowledge of educational philosophies and practices.
  • Effective supervisory skills.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
