Summary:  

The primary function of the Mental Health Worker is to provide medically necessary mental health treatment services to children and adolescents experiencing social, emotional, behavioral, and psychiatric problems. The position provides direct client supervision to those clients with chronic
or acute mental disorders who require active treatment.

Essential Functions:

The Mental Health Worker is aware of and has concern for those factors that ensure a safe and effective environment for psychiatric patients. The Mental Health Worker performs assigned tasks and activities according to skill level and patient needs as assessed by the Charge Nurse, Nurse Manager, and Lead Mental Health Therapist. In addition, the Worker will have a basic understanding of the behaviors of the psychiatric patient and an ability to interact in a therapeutic manner. The Worker will function as a member of the treatment team and accept responsibilities for specifically assigned duties such as patient observation rounds, suicide risk observation, management of the milieu, assisting with behavior modification programs and care of patient’s daily activities and needs. The Worker demonstrates knowledge of regulatory laws as it relates to the care of the mentally ill.

Job Requirements



Minimum Requirements: 

The following educational requirements are acceptable for this classification including:

  • High School Diploma or GED and one (1) year applicable experience or Associate’s Degree preferred. (Associate’s degree or sixty (60) credit hours from an accredited college or university.)
  •  
Education: Bachelors in Social Work, Psychology, or Counseling preferred

 

Experience: One year of inpatient behavioral health preferred.

 

Special Qualifications: Ability to communicate effectively with patients, families, physicians and other healthcare team members. Ability to work with others within a team to ensure quality patient care. Strong critical thinking skills. Ability to maintain healthy personal boundaries, protecting the therapeutic integrity of the counselor-patient relationship.

Other Qualifications:

  • At least twenty-one (21) years of age.
  • Criminal clearances (Act 33 and 34, specific State & child clearances and, if necessary, FBI).
  • Non-communicable diseases physical exam.
  • Valid driver's license from employee’s state of residence.
  • Valid registered vehicle insurance.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
