  • This position serves as a key advisor to the Warden on matters of policy, programs, and operations. The position provides direct administrative support to the Warden through continuing assignments and special projects as well as assistance to department heads in achieving specific program management objectives. The position also oversees the compliance and grievance areas for the facility along with the employees assigned to them.

Primary Duties and Responsibilities

  • Functions as a senior manager of the facility by participating in the development of plans, policies, and programs.
  • Acts on behalf of the Facility Administrator in researching and responding to moderate to complex issues impacting the facility. Ensures responses accurately represent the facility’s policy and procedures.
  • Serves as facility’s public relations representative. Responds to requests for information from news media or other inquirers. Provides timely and accurate responses while protecting the integrity of the facility. In addition writes memorandums, letters, press releases, or news articles
  • Serves as the facility’s Congressional Inquiry and Grievance representative by receiving correspondence from Senators and Congressmen, gathering and researching information for responses, and preparing them for the Facility Administrator’s signature.
  • Provides assistance to department heads in achieving specific program objectives by delegating and reviewing their submitted work prior to the approval by the Warden.
  • Generates a variety of institutional reports and general correspondence for the Warden.
  • Establishes and maintains effective working relations with all levels of staff, the state, other law enforcement agencies, and the general public.
  • Serves as the facility’s subject matter expert in the area of interpreting accreditation criteria based on organization, contracting client, or outside party requirements.
  • Collects, organizes and is responsible for maintenance of documentation required for accreditation.
  • Serves as one of the facility’s Administrative Duty Officers (ADOs).
  • Performs other duties as assigned.


Job Requirements

Minimum Requirements

  • High school diploma or equivalent. Bachelor’s degree is preferred.
  • Five (5) years of progressive experience in professional administrative functions demonstrating the ability analyze, research, and respond to complex issues affecting the operations of the facility.
  • Experience in dealing with the news media highly desired.
  • Ability to exercise initiative and independent judgment in dealing with various complex and confidential situations.
  • Must have a highly-developed knowledge of management principles and the ability to exercise managerial and evaluative skills.
  • Must have thorough knowledge of facility’s, organization’s, and state’s policies, rules, and regulations.
  • Knowledge of the Freedom of Information Act and all other pertinent policies governing the disclosure of information to the public and media.
  • Ability to work with computers and the necessary software typically used by the department.
