Summary
This position provides counseling services and assists inmates in adjusting to institutional life by selecting appropriate self–help, therapeutic, educational and vocational programs and obtaining needed services or changes in assignments.
Primary Duties and Responsibilities
- Provides individual counseling to inmates on an informal basis regarding work and housing assignments, adjustment problems, and family problems.
- Converses with inmate regarding their requests for transfers, job changes, or work release and refers cases to other departments as deemed appropriate.
- Determines inmate eligibility for programs and if such programs would be beneficial to the inmate’s overall adjustment to the facility.
- Conducts unit orientation for newly assigned inmates on assigned caseload and as required by the inmate’s request or change in status.
- Provides assistance to inmates in obtaining needed services and provides information for the inmate at Classification Committee meetings.
- Monitors inmates’ custody, housing, job and program assignments to ensure all inmates are reviewed in a timely manner.
- Make referrals for inmates with serious problems to professional counseling staff.
- Updates facility classification review forms.
- Documents the results of Classification Committee meetings, disciplinary hearings, and any other unit action resulting in a change in inmate’s assignment or status.
- Implements inmate educational activity plans for those inmates assigned to their caseload.
- Organizes inmate educational activity plans for those inmates assigned to their caseload.
- Sets appropriate goals and objectives for inmates.
- Performs daily inspection of job assignment.
- Conducts segregation rounds and compound rounds weekly.
- Investigates inmate file information for accuracy.
- Records educational and rehabilitative programs of inmates.
- Maintains and complies with ACA standards pertaining to classification, records, inmate job assignments, and unit orientation.
- Responds to inquires related to classification function.
- Reviews inmate medical status to determine inmate’s eligibility to work in job assignments.
- Performs other duties as assigned.
